About the list
The list is based on the Finnish Government Decree 143/2024. The decree requires employers to identify chemical products that may pose a risk to workers who are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breastfeeding.
Products on the list appear in the Overview under Restriction- and prohibition lists.
The list helps you find the products that fall under the decree. A hit does not automatically mean a risk: you need to assess whether the product poses a risk in your own work.
Criteria
A product gets a hit if it meets at least one of the criteria below.
Legal reference | Matched on | Criterion |
|---|---|---|
143/2024 § 2.1 | Product classification | H340, H341, H350, H350i, H351, H360, H360D, H360F, H360FD, H360Fd, H360Df, H361, H361d, H361f, H361fd, H362, H370, H371, H372, H373 |
143/2024 § 2.2 | Substances (CAS/EC number) | Carbon monoxide, manganese and manganese compounds, aluminium and aluminium compounds |
143/2024 § 2.2 | Substances (CAS/EC number) | Mercury and mercury compounds |
143/2024 § 4 | Substances (CAS/EC number) | Lead and lead compounds |
What the list does not cover
The list does not cover everything in the decree. Some risks cannot be matched to substances in a product:
- Organic solvents: the group is too broad to match on CAS numbers.
- Welding fumes and tobacco smoke: these arise during work and are not present in the products.
- Carcinogenic work processes (Annex I to Decree 113/2024): these are processes, not substances.
Cytostatics, hormones and hormone antagonists, and anaesthetic gases are not included. They are medicinal products and mainly concern healthcare and pharmacies.
You need to assess these risks separately.
I have products on the list - what should I do?
- Find out which criterion gives the hit. Go to the product's Productinfo/iSafe and look under Restriction- and prohibition lists, under Reason. The classification of the ingoing substances is in Section 3 of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS). You can also click 'Show composition' at the bottom of Productinfo/iSafe.
- Make a risk assessment that takes the type, level and duration of exposure into account.
- Inform your employees of the result and of the products that may pose a particular risk. Remind exposed employees that it is important to tell the employer about a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- When the employer knows about a pregnancy or breastfeeding, limit the exposure so that it does not pose a risk, for example by changing working conditions or working hours. If that is not possible, the employee should primarily be moved to other suitable tasks.
- For lead, always assume that there is a risk if lead can be absorbed by the body.
Document everything.
Tip! Make a list of the affected products and tell your employees where they can find it.
