Every chemical in iChemistry belongs to a department — a site, a building, a production line. This add-on lets your HR system, ERP, or facilities software create and maintain that structure automatically, so you never have to manage it in two places at once.
⭐ This is an add-on — not included in the standard subscription. Department Structure is activated separately after agreement with Intersolia.
How departments work in iChemistry
Departments are organised as a hierarchy — a tree that mirrors your organisation. Each department can have its own sub-departments. Every inventory record, safety document, and report in iChemistry is tied to a specific point in this tree.
Example structure: Company → Factory Stockholm → Production Line A / Lab | Factory Gothenburg → Assembly / Warehouse
Five available actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Read the full structure | Retrieve all departments at once — to check what's already in iChemistry before making changes. |
| Create a department | Add a new department anywhere in the hierarchy, with your own reference ID from your external system. |
| Rename or reorganise | Update a department's name, move it to a different parent, or change its reference ID. |
| Remove a department | Delete a department that is no longer needed. Sub-departments must be cleared first, or the whole branch can be removed at once. |
| Look up one department | Retrieve the details for a single department — useful before assigning products or users to it. |
Common uses
| Use case | Description |
|---|---|
| Initial setup | Push your full department list from HR or your ERP at go-live — instead of recreating it manually in iChemistry. |
| Staying in sync | As your organisation changes — new sites, renamed teams — your HR system pushes those changes to iChemistry automatically. |
| Foundation for inventory sync | Customers using the Inventory & Amounts add-on need accurate department references. This add-on keeps those references correct. |
| Multi-site rollouts | Automate structure setup across many sites at once — removing a major manual step and getting each site ready faster. |
Good to know
Each department carries your own reference ID. In addition to iChemistry's internal identifier, each department can store a reference from your own system — a cost centre code, a site number, etc. This must be unique within your account.
Deleting a branch requires a deliberate choice. If a department has sub-departments, iChemistry blocks deletion by default. You must explicitly confirm that you want to remove the whole branch.
